Some people at Dayspring designate a portion of their giving toward something called MISSION FORWARD. This journey began on Sunday, March 21, 2010, when the church stepped out in faith making personal vows to God. These commitments were a concerted offer to do something out of the ordinary for the glory of God by knocking out a significant portion of the church’s debt. This campaign was not about money or a facility. It was about Jesus and His mission, and our ability to join in on this mission.
All of the offering funds dedicated to that effort (called “The Vow”) were applied directly to the principal of a second bank note the church held. Amazingly, in just a matter of just a few years, the church eliminated the entirety of that $1.5 million dollar note! What made this journey even more miraculous is that only 90% of this offering went to the bank. As an act of faith, we took 10% off the top and just gave it away to mission/ministry partners.
This generous Vow giving through the people of Dayspring not only eliminated $1.5 million of the church’s debt, but enabled us to partner with local ministries such as The Women’s Resource Center, McKemie Place, Light of the Village, just to name a few. We’ve funded the digging of a clean water well in Sierra Leon, Africa. We’ve helped fund individual missionaries so they can get on the field. And we’ve paid the salaries of dozens of bi-vocational indigenous pastors on foreign soil, making it possible for them to plant over 100 churches! We’ve also partnered with church planters right here in the continental U.S. Since 2010, we have been able to invest nearly $700,000 in ministry partners locally, nationally and internationally.
After completing our VOW giving campaign, we decided that we didn’t want to cease giving above and beyond in this way. We wanted to press forward in our sacrificial giving. Our new effort is known as MISSION FORWARD. Those who give above their tithes, designating monies toward Mission Forward, are doing two things: (a) helping the church improve the ministry here at our Dayspring campus, and (b) providing valuable dollars that are given away to mission partners. And here’s what exciting about Mission Forward: Whereas 10% of Vow dollars were given away to mission partners, 60% of Mission Forward dollars are given away to our partners!
If you intend for a portion of your gift to be designated toward MISSION FORWARD, be sure to indicate that on your check memo line, the Mission Forward space provided on your giving envelope, or in the Mission Forward amount box for online giving.
